COURT: Attacker who wrapped cable around disabled victim's throat is jailed.

A man who attacked a disabled man, wrapping an extension cable around his throat and biting his ear, has been jailed.

David Roe, 42, was a given a 12-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to assault causing bodily harm.

Roe, of Benedict Court, Top Valley, went into the victim's flat in Rise Park on 9 January 2020 when he was asleep before attacking him.

Roe grabbed him and head-butted him before biting his ear. The victim was then punched and kicked to the body and face before Roe grabbed an electrical extension cable and wrapped it around his neck, tightening the cable around his throat.

The victim screamed for help before managing to struggle free. He escaped and police were called.

Roe was on licence at the time and has since been recalled to prison.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday (26 February 2020) for sentencing, Roe was given 12 months in prison and was made subject of a three-year restraining order.

Speaking after the sentencing Police Constable Susan Farren said: "This was a nasty unprovoked attack where the victim was strangled with a cable resulting in injuries.

"The victim thought Roe was trying to kill him and was left feeling vulnerable in his own home.

"I hope that seeing Roe brought to justice and knowing he's no longer on our streets may bring him some comfort."
