Auto crime offences

Alert message sent 09/06/2020 11:41:00

Information sent on behalf of Notts Police

We have taken 2 reports of autocrime offences in the area of the Hollygate lane estate on the edge of Cotgrave.

The offences occurred overnight between the 6th and 7th of June 2020

In one of the incidents a vehicle key was removed from a hall table which was then used to steal the vehicle.
There was no sign of a forced entry to the address, so it is likely that the offenders used some kind of instrument to hook the keys off the table, possibly through the letter box.

The second incident involved a car being entered through unknown means; it is believed that the vehicle had been left secure by the owner. Items were stolen from within that vehicle.

Investigations have taken place and we are aware of some CCTV systems in the area.

We always advise that people should not leave their keys in a prominent position near to a ground floor external door or window, ideally take the vehicle keys into your bedroom with you along with bags, wallets and purses etc.

If your vehicle has a keyless entry system then please keep your key in a metal tin or you can buy key protectors, sometimes known as faraday bags to store your key in.
